Bassist and bandleader, Phil Raney, is the founding member of Urban Jazz Coalition.
UJC guitarist, Joe Gothard, can best be described using the word “versatile”. Gothard has performed in virtually every genre of the musical spectrum during his career.
Percussionist HECTOR MALDONADO besides playing with UJC performs many clinics and is a studio musician playing Quinto, Conga, Tumbara, Bata, Bongo and assorted World hand-made accessories.
Brandon Howard is the harmonic center of Urban Jazz Coalition’s unique fusion of musical styles. The sensational keyboard virtuoso was recently hailed as “a young Ramsey Lewis” by Sandy Shore, President of Smoothjazz.com.
Saxophonist Richard Randolph gets his inspiration for playing jazz from saxophonists such as the late Jazz Legends: John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderly, Grover Washington Jr and Art Porter; as well as Kirk Whalum, Gerald Albright, Everette Harp, Kenny Garrett and others.
Drummer RICH “RICO” ADAMS grew up admiring many styles of music. Gospel drum influences were Joel Smith (Hawkins Singers), Bill Maxwell (Andre Crouch), Dana Davis (Winans), while secular influences were Earth, Wind, & Fire, Steely Dan, Grover Washington, David Sanborn, and Return To Forever.
Duane Tribune is a guitarist and one of the newest members of UJC. His abilities as a guitar player have given him the opportunity to be exposed to and play many styles of music.
A long time fan of Urban Jazz Coalition, Tribune stated, “I have known Phil Raney and Hector Maldonado for a long time and would “fill in” the guitar chair when ever they needed me. When the opportunity presented itself to become a member of the band I believed it to be an answer to prayer and jumped at the opportunity. I’m very excited to be part of a group like UJC. They have always been dedicated to their craft and it shows in what they’ve accomplished over the years”.
“Not only are they absolutely fantastic and fun to work with, the musicianship is superb and they’re a 10 on the crowd-pleasing scale.” ~Tom Carroll – Clear Channel Radio Events
“Urban Jazz Coalition has created a high energy jazz/R&B/soul sound compared to the likes of Spyro Gyra and The Jazz Crusaders. It’s a blend of fiery funk and smooth jazz textures.” ~Michael Fagien – JAZZIZ Magazine

Scott Ibex’s unique acoustic music transforms the steel string guitar into a full orchestra using alternate tunings, palm percussion, partial capos, and a trademark two-handed tapping technique that leaves audiences breathless.
“Scott Ibex’s acoustic-tapping show turns one guitar into a full orchestra!” – Stephanie Schulte, The Press Enterprise.
“Scott Ibex’s music is pure heaven!” – Guy Towe, LA Talk Radio.
Over the course of the past fifteen years, singer/songwriter Scott Ibex has crafted music in a variety of genres. From what he dubs psychedelic bluegrass, to solo acoustic tapping/fingerstyle guitar, to his unique blend of reggae infused acoustic rock, Ibex is most certainly an original.
As a self-taught musician drawing from a variety of musical influences, Ibex first fell in love with song at the age of 6 when he learned violin. By the age of 10, he was performing classical piano at recitals, and at 14 he picked up guitar and never looked back. After learning bass, drums, and finding his vocal soul at 15, a songwriter who would one day perform multiple instruments on his own rock album was born.
In addition to his personal songwriting achievements, Ibex has also developed commercially successful projects as a producer. While drumming and managing for New York City based, The Power Apes, he individually wrote and produced two of the six Power Apes songs, “Hot Legs and Hotel Bars,” and “Just Wanna Party,” licensed to MTV and aired on their television program, “All-Star Backyard Bar-b-que.”
With the Apes, Ibex also performed live at The Continental, The Elbow Room, The Lion’s Den, and many more famous Greenwich Village and Brooklyn venues, however, in 2003, Ibex moved to Newport Beach, California to focus on a solo career as an acoustic singer/songwriter.
In May of 2006, Ibex released his debut album, At Love’s New Dawn, and shortly after recorded a well-received folk album 1968 at Glass Owl Records. Since then he has completed multiple national U.S. tours, performed on live radio and television, been billed as a feature artist at many colleges and universities, famous venues in Hollywood, Austin, and New York City, played with celebrity musicians, and is currently publishing his first book: Low-Budget Rockstar: The Complete Do-It-Yourself Guide to Booking, Surviving, and Making a Profit on Your Own Indie Tour.
